A big news came a few days back from Google that Instant Search by Google will discontinue. Yes, I know it's really a shocking news but it's true. Google have so many products. But wait before you get more panic let me clear the difference between Instant Search and Autofill feature. The now discontinued Instant Search feature essentially provided search results pages in real-time as users were typing in the search bar. You will see still suggestions for searches through the drop down menu when you type in the search bar.
This was first reported by Search Engine Land, who quotes a Google spokesperson as saying:

"We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices."

Google started this Instant search feature in 2010, as mentioned by the spokesperson, under the leadership of Marissa Mayer, ex-CEO of Yahoo. The feature works well on desktops but now the most searches are happening from mobile devices. So, Google has may be had decided to discontinue this Instant Search feature, as per the reports. The feature has been removed for unified design across platforms. Google says more than half of the searches are made on mobiles.

To achieve more unified design across mobile and desktop Google decided to remove Instant search feature from the desktop version of its search engine, as per a report.

The feature could often be annoying more than helpful at times. However, there are people who would argue that the Instant Search feature helped them save valuable time. So, let's how and when Google will discontinue their Instant Search feature.
